Hillsborough County election commissioner brings online convenience to poll workers

TAMPA, Fla., January 1, 2006 – More than 3500 poll workers will not have to worry about how they will complete the required training this upcoming election year -  Buddy Johnson has once again surpassed industry standards by employing the latest technology in education to the election world.

To ensure that fair and accurate elections are conducted, poll workers must complete 3 mandatory hours of training prior to Election Day. “On Election Day, we count on these civic-minded individuals to efficiently process voters, provide instructions on the proper use of the touch screen voting machines and effectively solve potential problems that voters may encounter” says Diane Jones, Poll Worker Coordinator for Hillsborough County.  In order to achieve these tasks Buddy Johnson partnered with SOE Software, Inc., based in Tampa, Florida to provide an online training solution, Clarity Training®, to ensure accountability, promote poll worker recruitment, and provide the necessary training to poll workers prior to every election.

Human fatigue, training styles, and various training manual versions all lead to inconsistencies in current Poll Worker training programs. Clarity Training® provides a consistent and fair training message for individual learners.  Clarity Training® is a web based product which allows a designated person within the elections office the ability to create an in-depth curriculum filled with text, video, interactive exercises,  individual reportable assessments and much more to create a learning environment for all learning styles.  Clarity Training® also allows election officials the ability to make on-the-fly additions or changes to the online training curriculum anytime, anywhere and allows adult learners to educate themselves on their schedule and take refresher courses anytime prior to Election Day.

SOE Software develops election and candidate management solutions that help supervisors of elections manage mountains of data and distribute it via the web to voters, candidates, elected officials, media personnel and political parties. Developed in conjunction with county election departments, the SOE Software solutions simplify website maintenance while enhancing communication to and education of the public. SOE Software's product suite is modular in design and uses the latest Microsoft technologies.
